Seattle Somatics is a massage and somatic (body) therapies clinic offering clinical and wellness services to the greater Seattle community. The clinic was founded by three massage therapists and teachers, Pat Archer, Michael Jacobus & John Stickel. All are or have been instructors at Cortiva Institute - Seattle (formally Brenneke School of Massage) Their Mission is to bridge the gap between graduation from a massage/bodywork school and successful self-employment by offering clinical, business and professional development and support to newly licensed professionals.

Pat Archer has been a sports health care specialist and educator for over 30 years. As a Certified Athletic Trainer (1977), Licensed Massage Therapist (1985) and Sports Massage Specialist, her technical expertise and work experience at all levels of athletic competition provide a unique combination of skills and insights for students and professionals alike. Some of the career highlights for Pat include:
§ Sports massage coordinator/therapist for the Seattle Sonics of the NBA from 1994 through 2001, and Seattle Storm of the WNBA from inception in 2000 through 2003.
§ Associate Head Athletic Trainer at University of Montana, 1977-1983.
§ Director of Education and Instructor at the Brenneke School of Massage in Seattle, 1986-1997. Instructor, Curriculum Advisor, and Sports Program Director 1997 to present.
§ Director of Massage Services, 1997 USA Track and Field National Championships.
§ Sports Massage Therapist for University of Washington men’s and women’s swimming 2000-2006.
§ Athletic Trainer and Massage Therapist at the Centennial Olympic Games in 1996.
§ Past chairperson for the AMTA Sports Massage Education Council and Special Committee for Evaluation of the National Sports Massage Team.

§ Presenter on sports health care topics at numerous state, regional and national meetings including the NATA National Clinical Symposium in 1997 and 2005, WAMTA state convention in 1998, 2002, and 2006, AMTA National Convention in 1999, NWATA Annual Meeting most recently in 2003 and 2004.
Michael graduated from massage school in 1996. He has worked in a variety of medical and wellness centers including physician offices, chiropractic centers and Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA. He has also been a Certified Trager® Practitioner since 2005 and continues to hone his skills in both arenas by taking ongoing education classes. Since 2001 he has been an instructor at Cortiva Institute - Seattle (formally Brenneke School of Massage) teaching basic and intermediate massage, kinesiology, professional development and ethics courses to massage students. He also has supervised massage students at Swedish Medical Center as they provide massage services to oncology, HIV+, and medical patients. He enjoys hiking, photography. yoga and singing with the Seattle Men's Chorus.

John is a certified clinical sports massage specialist who has massaged amateur, college, Olympic and professional teams and athletes since 1999 as a state licensed and nationally certified massage therapist.
In addition to his private practice of relaxation and recovery massage, John has massaged athletes from the Seattle Supersonics and Storm, Seattle Pacific University, Stanford and the University of Washington. He has also worked extensively in Northwest salons and spas as a therapist, trainer and designer and believes that “Everybody is an athlete.”
John has qualified for both the Washington State and the AMTA National Sports Massage teams. He has recently passed the rigorous National Strength and Conditioning Association testing requirements to become a Certified Personal Trainer [NSCA-CPT].
Since 2001, John has been an instructor teaching courses including pathology, hydrotherapy, treatment massage & sports massage. He also supervises the school’s award-winning Field Experience program that brings massage to underserved members of the Northwest community. Additionally he has developed and teaches continuing education courses ranging from Hot Stone Massage and Onsite Techniques to Body Mechanics for Massage Professionals.
John trains for and plays “geezer-ball” in the Puget Sound Senior Baseball League and lives near Green Lake Park in an on-going remodeling project with his girlfriend and her three cats.
